Safe and Sound Soap Co.: Summer is right around the corner!! With this in mind I have added two new scents to my Non Toxic Car Air Freshener collection: Honeysuckle Breeze, a clean sweet scent that will take you to the country where the honeysuckles grow! And my new favorite, Beach Babe. This is a bright coconutty scent with a hint of sunshine and tanning oil, you’ll feel like you are laying on the beach with this air freshener in your car!
If you are an essential oil lover, don’t worry, I have something for you too! This week my essential oil car fresheners are on sale for $10 each! I have Orange Bergamot, Vanilla Sandlewood, Cedarwood and Cinnamon, and Lemon Eucalyptus.
Tailwynds Farm: We have some new cuts of beef available. We have a Picanha Roast Cut. This cut can be grilled to perfection, has wonderful flavor and a similar texture to a sirloin steak and to top it off try a homemade fresh strawberry pie for dessert. If you have not tried a Tomahawk steak we still have some available. We have had amazing reviews on these cuts with customers saying it was the best and most tender steak they have ever eaten. Fire up those grills and give one a try. We have many crops already growing and plan to have all the farm fresh vegetables available as soon as they start coming in.
Emerald Acres: Strawberries, Lettuce Mix, Mixed Lettuce Heads and Spring Mix of Flowers.
Sow’s Ear Piggery: We have re-stocked our “BEST-SELLERS” this week: mild pork breakfast sausage (no MSG) and pork chops! Heritage-breed, pastured pigs on non-GMO/non-soy/non-corn diet. More cuts to be added soon!
Pinky’s Micro’s:
New Spring blend of power packed microgreens…Romaine, Golden Leeks, Lemon Basil and Red Panda Sorrell.
Also check out our other Micro’s – Basic Salad Mix, Broccoli, Cilantro, Pea, Radish, Red Amaranth, Sunflower and Wheat Grass Shots.
Oakview Farm:
We will have some of its customer favorites this week: Scandanavian Buttermilk Sourdough Bread, Artisan Sourdough bread, Roasted Strawberry Jam, and Homemade Peppermint Patties! Our hens have been laying like crazy, so we have fresh eggs, too.
From our garden, we have our Salad Greens Mix, Cabbage, Rainbow Swiss Chard, and Spinach. We don’t use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides on our produce, so you know it’s good for you and the environment.
Quarter Spring Farm: has all the affordable luxury that you need this spring. From our moisturizing soaps to our delicious meats and eggs, we have all the goodies to pamper you. You work hard, so treat yourself to an incredible dining experience with our lamb or chicken. It’s healthier and tastier than conventionally grown meats, and better for the planet, too. Our amazing goat milk soaps and lotions will leave your skin feeling like you just dropped 2 grand at a high end spa. You deserve nice things, so let us provide them to you.
NashPhilly:
Few new items this week.- Chicken, prosciutto pesto lasagnas for spring. We are taking the journey of exploring different and special lasagnas this spring and summer season. Delicious pesto sauce with spinach, sun dried tomatoes and of course lots of Italian herbs and cheeses.
Bruschetta. It’s tomato time and we have been wanting to do this for a while now. Tomatoes marinated in extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh basil and of course raw garlic. A great snack with some crackers, toast points, or you can even put it in a bed of salad greens.
Roasted Garlic and cauliflower soup. We roast the cauliflower with garlic, shallots, and thyme in the oven for one hour before blending it with vegetable stock. And finish it with truffle oil and fresh squeezed lemon juice. It’s a gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian. And it’s a home run of a soup.
Kumaika Coffee:
If you have not started your morning with our Coffee, you are missing out! We have Dark, Medium and Light Roasted Beans. We are a Certified USDA Organic Product provider. We have a small coffee roaster business. We specialize in roasting and crafting small batches of organic, high altitude single origin and fair trade coffee beans. MISC MARKET NOTES
One of the things I love best about our M@D Market is wonderful give and take between our vendors and customers. On any given pickup Friday there’s going to be multiple people present usually having lively conversations about something. I think all of us who’ve hung around can remember something significant that has enriched our lives.
For this manager one of those conversations inspired me to join the sourdough cult. I say cult because I frequently find my thoughts in that realm: “did I feed the starter today”, “what am I going to do with all this discard”, and “I’d like to try that design or that recipe”. While it’s been a fun and tasty adventure, it’s also been frustrating and discouraging at times. Perhaps the main thing I’ve learned is that there are principals that must be respected but there are no hard and fast rules.
Bread aside, loving to learn is the gift that keeps on giving. We all understand how important it is for children and young adults, but perhaps it best serves those of us 60 and above as it creates resilient cognitive abilities. In one study researchers tested the verbal working memory of older adults (average age 66) compared to younger adults (average age 22) simply by having them determine if pronouns in sentences were used correctly. Besides doing as well and sometimes better than younger adults there was evidence that older adults used additional brain regions with cognitive activities.
Other research has found that continuing education adds to cognitive resiliency. Learning new things helps the brain create new neural pathways associated with problem solving and memory.
What it all means is that intellectual ability doesn’t necessarily decline as you age and that lifelong learning is important for continued mental health and wellness.
Even simple activities like reading a book or watching a documentary can help with:
1. Increased Neuron Generation. Lifelong learning has been found to stimulate greater neuron generation and connection in the brain. Neurons are responsible for sending information throughout the body and when this is improved, it positively affects memory, attention, thinking, and reasoning skills.
2. Reduced Risk of Forms of Dementia. This greater neuron generation can maintain and enhance brain health. Activities like learning a new language and mastering a new gardening technique are cognitively stimulating and may reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
3. Improved Ability to Handle Challenges. Simply reading a book or practicing an instrument can decrease muscle tension and blood pressure. Lower stress levels can help you better cope with challenging situations and changes in life.
4. More Socialization. One of the best parts of lifelong learning is it can be done with others! Learning courses, discussion groups, and book clubs can spark social interaction that is intellectually engaging and helps you avoid depression and isolation.
MOTHER’S DAY OPEN HOUSE is Saturday, May 11! Mark your calendar and plan to join us on this special day! Many of our vendors will be set up on site and in person.
We look forward to seeing you next Friday at one of our pickup locations. Thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Martin's Farmstand: Fresh Greens
The farmstand is open this afternoon from noon till 5 pm. We just harvested a tub each of fresh garlic scallions, turnip greens from the young turnips that over wintered, and wildcrafted dandelion greens. Garrison is bringing some micro greens that he grew. Also there is the normal selection of potatoes, carrots, beets, cabbage, etc. Before you laugh at someone selling dandelion greens remember that not everyone has a good spot to harvest them or maybe one is just not able or inclined to harvest there own. I personally eat quite a few dandelion greens in salads or sandwiches. It is a good spring tonic and I like them better than turnip greens. Lettuce is better but it is not ready for harvest yet. Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m. in Clayton, Clarkesville, or Gainesville.
If you do not get an email ORDER CONFIRMATION after you finish the checkout process, then your order is NOT complete. Head back to the market page, and your order might still be there waiting for you to check out! If you have any trouble or questions at all, we are here to help; simply reply to this email.
Once you place an order, be on the lookout for the order reminder email on Wednesday with further pickup and payment notes. Thanks for your support!
